Instagram Sales Secrets: Four Step System for Selling on Instagram

Let me guess: Zero?

Aaaaand… how much time did you spend on the platform scrolling, posting, all of the things?

Maaaaybe more than you’d care to admit?

If so, this episode is for YOU.

We’re covering my NEW four step process for making sales from Instagram, without spending all of your time posting.

Things on the platform have changed in the last while, and I want to make sure you aren’t implementing old strategies and wasting your precious time doing things that just don’t move the needle anymore.

What’s Working Now on Instagram?

Focusing on conversations over content.

Gone are the days that you need to spend hours creating content on the platform.

Quite frankly, it’s a recipe for burn-out and it’s not necessary – especially if you aren’t able to maintain quality.

What does that mean?

In a nutshell, when it comes to your feed it means that you creating one killer piece of content a week that generates engagement is going to move the needle for you far more than trying to churn out multiple pieces of sub-standard content.

You can supplement this with ONE piece of content on Reels, or IGTV, or a Live, and then pepper in regular stories (want more on how to do that? Check out episode 16 on how to create Highlights).

Your additional time is much better spent engaging with your community, and building relationships in your DM. 

Now we’re clear on that, let’s dive into the exact, step-by-step strategy that I recommend to get off the content creation hamster wheel and instead start making sales from the platform.

Because that’s why we’re there at the end of the day… riiiiight? 😉

#1 Strategy

If you’re on Instagram without a strategy for generating revenue in your business, how can you ever expect to reach your goals?

At the very core of your strategy is a solid understanding of your numbers.

At the very core of your strategy is a solid understanding of your numbers.

Start with your sales goals – how much do you want to make from the platform? Then, simply work backwards. How many leads do you need to generate in order to reach your sales goal? And, how many people need to see your content on Instagram in order to get your required number of leads?

#2 A Selling System

By having selling systems set up before you start creating content and building your audience, you’re no longer crossing your fingers and leaving your sales success on the platform leaving sales up to chance.

There are two ways channels that I recommend funneling your Instagram audience into in order to generate sales.

Firstly, your email list where you can set up a selling system to nurture your audience and make related sales offers.

And secondly, your DM inbox, which in 2020 is one of the VERY best ways to nurture your audience and close sales without ever having to leave the Instagram platform! Want more in Instagram DM Sales Strategy? Check out this podcast episode.

#3 Social Media

Only once you are equipped with a solid strategy and selling systems should you start putting time and energy into your social presence on the Instagram platform. 

What that looks like will be unique to you. With so many features now on the platform, from Reels to Stories to IGTV, your content strategy will involve the creation of a content plan that incorporates the features, cadence and pillars that best suit you and your audience.

A rough guide? 1 – 2 posts a week on your feed, regular stories, and a presence on ONE of the other features.  

Above all, ensure that your content aligns with what it is that you sell that leads with connection and/or value. Social media is a conversation starter, not a deal closer – hold the sales. 

#4 Supercharge

The final step in the four step framework for making sales on the Instagram platform is to supercharge your efforts with advanced strategies.

Organic Instagram can only get you so far; in order to really take charge of your results you’ll need to introduce other strategies.

One example? Instagram advertising. Collaborations, influencers, and competitions will also allow you to grow faster than if you were just doing things organically.
